New PM to Attend UN General Assembly in September

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia will attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 78) in New York from September 19-26 after the new government has been formed and a new prime minister instated this month.

With the new Royal Government delegation led by Dr. Hun Manet and his new generation of diplomats, Cambodia intends to use the large forum to express personal views on international issues and to meet with key global actors to strengthen international cooperation.

This year, the UN General Assembly will focus on building confidence and strengthening global unity under the theme of “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.”

Prime Minister Hun Sen is expected to relinquish his position to his son, Dr. Hun Manet, on August 22. The September assembly will be a momentous debut for the new prime minister on an international stage.
